Feb. 11 * Checked hazardous waste area for leaks finding none * Changed cutting edge on truck # 4 plow * Brought truck # 3 to Porter's for repairs to wiper motor and replace oil pan - picked up truck in afternoon * T & R Custom came to replace thermal by-pass valve and do transmission service on loader due to overheating * Plowed back snow drifts in town and cut up a couple of trees that came down in storm * Sanded in front of library * Called Verizon on tree on wires on Robbins Rd. and two large pines trees that are pulling out of ground in Gulf area below Garage Rd. Tues. Feb. 12 * Changed cutting edge on loader bucket * Checked out all trucks and prepared them for impending snow storm * Brought truck # 2 to Porter's for repair to left front brake canister and slack adjuster - picked up truck after lunch * Brought 55 gallon drum of waste oil to Athol to designated waste oil user * Sanded area of Gulf Rd due to MVA into guardrail * All personnel reported to work at 6:30 P.M. and began sanding paved roads - called in private contractors and began plowing at 9:30 P.M. - continued plowing into Wed. Wed. Feb. 13 * Snow changed over to sleet at 2 A.M. - began re-plowing roads at 3 A.M. - 1-Ton broke down losing windshield wipers - changed to freezing rain at 7:15 A.M. - truck # 2 broke down losing the rear end axle at 10:15 A.M. - this puts us down to only one sand truck until truck # 2 is repaired - began re-plowing at 11 A.M. all roads as freezing rain was changing to heavy rain - put grader on road to scrape ice off roads at 11 A.M. - loader began going around town dealing with water issues at 1 P.M. - Tim and Jim went home to get some sleep at 4:30 P.M. while Vin and Bill kept working - began re-sanding paved roads at 6 P.M. - Tim and Jim came back to work at 11P.M. while Vin and Bill went home to get some sleep - began sanding dirt roads at 11:30 P.M. - continued into Thurs. -received 5" of snow, 3" sleet, 4 hours of freezing rain followed by several hours of heavy rain * Truck # 2 was towed to Porter's at 12 P.M. to get rear end repaired * Electric hot water heater sprung at leak and had to be shut down in bathroom * Please be aware that the tremendous effort of the Highway Crew and private contractors during a very difficult storm with multiple major vehicle breakdowns was accomplished with great teamwork Thurs. Feb. 14 * Cleaned out school and moved snow bankings * Called in private contractors at 6 A.M. to begin scraping off paved roads and then re-sand them all * Monitored water streams for possible flooding * Dropped off truck # 4 at Salvadore's for repair of wipers - picked up after work to bring back tomorrow * Picked up truck # 2 from Porter's after having rear axle replaced * Received call from Shelburne Control at 4:45 P.M. about Robbins Rd./Old Winchester Rd. being icy - called in person to sand and check other dirt roads - went home at 6:30 P.M. Fri. Feb. 15 * Two personnel came in at 3 A.M. to sand all roads * Scraped various roads in town * Cleaned intersections and water puddles * Tree Warden looked at trees in Gulf Rd area that are pulling out of ground - he determined they are not within his jurisdiction - Verizon will not cut them - will try to determine ownership of property next week if possible Sat. Feb. 16 * Received call from Jim Toth at 11:15 A.M. about MVA on Hockanum Rd. - received another call From Shelburne Control from Fire Dept. requesting sand after I had already left for work - called in personnel to sand all roads due to icy conditions - went home at 4:15 P.M. Sun. Feb. 17 * Received call from Shelburne Control at 6:45 P.M. that Fire Chief was reporting icy conditions on Barber Hill - called in personnel and sanded all main roads - went home at 10:45 P.M.
