Moore's Pond Beach Committee Meeting Minutes January 10, 2011 7PM Town Hall Present: Dave Shepardson, Fran Prohaska, Kathy Connolly, Gloria Varno, Mary Williamson, Jim McRae (arrived 7:20PM), Clare Green (arrived 7:25PM) Called to order 7:02 PM. Minutes of December 6 meeting reviewed, a couple changes made and indicated, then minutes approved as changed, by a unanimous vote. Mary received the bill from Berkshire Environ Labs for a total of $640, which was 16 weeks of water testing. Since we expected $600, we questioned the extra week but Labor Day fell early so they tested that day also. Kathy had $506.17 in the budget, Mary hadn't given her the $50 received at the last meeting and then she opened and received $45 from various donations bringing the total to $601.17. Another donation is expected and not all the letters that went out have acknowledged so Mary is expecting to receive enough to cover the invoice. 2 weeks from tonight is another Selectboard meeting and we should be able to put this invoice on the warrant. Mary will make a list of all contributions, make the deposit and give a copy to the treasurer for the warrant. The reports of the 16 weeks of testing have been received and all weeks had cleared. We reviewed all weeks and analyzed that the maximum E-coli acceptable number is 235 and we ran from 1-163 all summer. Jim mentioned talking to some ice fishermen from Ashfield who said they like to fish here because the fish are better, no grubs in the fish. Jim also heard about a Lycot study that was done in the 1980's which was ramping up for the title 5 issues and wondered if anyone knew anything about it. Dave had heard about it and said Larry Carey might have more information. Kathy would like to discuss this further if we can find more information. We discussed the Wooden Fender event in April and have decided to participate. Clare mentioned a few things we could do...Taco Bar, Lasagna, Pizza, Kabobs. Jim said you can estimate about 40 to 50 people will participate. We will need to get a food permit. Next meeting we will finalize what we are having and prepare for the April 9th event. Other fund raising we discussed were postcards and note cards, possibility of T-shirts with a picture of the beach on it. We could sell them like the historical society. We should check with the historical society and get their supplier. A beach cleanup is scheduled for May 21st before the start of the new beach season. We are also looking at a 'beach party' June 25th with a rain date of July 9th. It could be a combination 'beach opening' and 'end of school' party. Mary brought up last meeting regarding our discussion about policies and thinks we need to have 2 sets. One, which she calls "management plan" and another "public policies". We had so many issues where we referenced state or local law and thinks we need to have a policy which references the laws. We will develop each policy and keep a notebook of them for reference. Suggested we bring a laptop to enter our policy information as we discuss it at the next meeting. Kathy handed out a draft of an article she wants to put in the newsletter. Everyone approved. Motion to adjourn and seconded at 8:25 PM. Next meeting scheduled for March 7, 2011 at 7 PM. Prepared by Gloria Varno Secretary
