Moore's Pond Beach Committee Meeting Minutes December 6, 2010 7PM Town Hall Present: Fran Prohaska, Dave Shepardson, Mary Williamson, Gloria Varno, Jim McRae, Clare Green (arrived 7:35) Called to order at 7:00PM by co-chair Dave Shepardson. Minutes of October 18, 2010 meeting were reviewed and accepted unanimously. Budget: The Holiday Fair netted $127 from the basket raffle. $496.17 total has been received towards the $600 needed for the water testing. An additional $30 was received at the meeting. Mary has a list of potential donors and she will draft a letter asking for donations towards the water testing to make the remainder of the $600. If more than $600 is received, we will put it towards 2011 testing. Mary has talked to Enviro Labs and they have completed their 986 reports of the 76 beaches tested and have sent the state and towns 16,000 total pages of the reports. The woman has a stack 13" high of invoices, which need to be sent so we should be receiving our invoice within the next couple of weeks and we have 30 days to get it paid. Jim and Dave asked a couple of questions which Mary said she will ask of them after invoices are sent. How many of the 76 beaches are now at monthly testing vs. weekly testing? How many beaches were closed this year? Beach Cleanup: The work bee, which took place at the beach in the fall, got quite a bit of work done. Dave's Jeep was loaded with Buckthorn, which was pulled out by the roots near the roadside. Dave suggested the water edge buckthorn be cut and not pulled by the roots so as not to have beach and bank erosion. Mary identified a lot of plants, which should remain and marked with ribbon. This will make a good barrier between the road and the beach. Matt pulled out some sand from the water and filled the gully, which was made during a storm. The gully pit was raked and evened out. Attending the beach cleanup was, Matt, Gloria, Dave, Mary, Fran, and Clare. Bev Shepardson provided donuts and coffee. Fund Raising: Jim said that April is the next date that Wooden Fender has an opening. The committee chose this date to work in conjunction with Wooden Fender and provide a meal as a fund raising activity. Saturday April 9th appears to be the date, and Jim will verify. The note pads and post card option everyone agreed would be nice but Dave brought up the fact that the picture used as an example, needs to have the kids identified and permission gotten to use them. Gloria asked Clare the Historical Society's success with cards and she said it's not a high turnaround now, but was at the beginning. Mary suggested that we keep some note cards on hand for thank you notes donations. Policies: We went down the list of topics and discussed what our policy should be for each topic. It was decided that we should not set policy for anything that is covered by town or state law. We don't need redundancy. And we should not post all policies so as to keep it simple for people to follow. We can keep separate policies that we as a committee can refer to internally. Topics with suggested reference: Hours open - Dawn to Dusk Swim at Own Risk, No Lifeguard on Duty Water Testing - Water testing done per state regulations (Memorial Day to Labor Day) Trash/Littering - Pack in Pack out NO fires allowed Smoking - "pick up own butts" Disturbing the peace incidents - 911 for emergencies. Town hall number for concerns/questions. Loud radios - respect others Motorized vehicles - post-barriers should limit access Boat launch - post sign for launch area Nude bathing - posting might encourage. Is this a duplication of law? Alcohol - is this a town policy? Is special permission needed? Dogs - town leash law. Let it be, unless problem. Beach Maintenance - 2-3 times a year Suggested we group things such as nude bathing, alcohol, dogs, noise etc, and refer to town or state laws regarding. Don't post this type of policy. Jim asked about the rock pile that Neil use to move each season. Neil would take it down, kids would have it back up within a day. It's used for diving purposes so we decided to leave it alone. Next meeting scheduled for Monday, January 10, 2011 at 7 PM. Agenda: April Wooden Fender event planning Budget update Fund raising ideas Policies/rules Meeting adjourned at 8:24 PM.
