Moore's Pond Beach Committee Meeting @ Town Hall 5:00 PM on July 15, 2011 Present: Kathy Connelly, Matt Connelly, Fran Prohaska, Gloria Varno, Dave Shepardson (arrived 5:10 PM), Jim McRae (arrived 5:12 PM), Clare Green (arrived 5:13PM). Meeting called to order at 5:05PM Notes - * Minutes of last meeting accepted as submitted. * Discussion of Aug 27/28 Old Home Days o Beach Party on Sunday the 28th from 2-4PM. o Jim will put some entertainment together for the 2 hours. o Kathy is going to check and see if Kelly Farley had gotten her permit and wants to set up her cart at the beach to sell food. Portion of her profits go to the beach. o If Kelly isn't planning on setting up, the committee will provide drinks and snacks such as lemonade, coolaid, etc. The fire department had some coolers at the chicken BBQ that we may be able to borrow? o We will have a raffle, selling tickets on Saturday from 10AM to 2PM and again on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM, with the drawing at 4PM. Kathy has enough items to put together two nice 'beach' baskets; Dave has donated a roof rake; Gloria is going to donate a gift certificate to someplace. o Tickets will be $1 each or 7 for $5. o Saturday we will have a table at the town common to sell the tickets, show the slides of the beach and get the support of the people in town by telling them what the beach and committee is all about. o We decided against having games at the beach party because that could present too many problems. o Kathy will post signs at the library, Town Hall, online, at the Kiosk and the Transfer Station announcing the beach party. o Gloria will send a signup sheet to all committee members to cover the booth on Saturday and sell tickets at the beach party. * Kathy and Matt mentioned that the beach has had more trash than normal. Mostly clothing and towels left behind and about 2-3 cans per day on the beach. * Clare emphasized the signage might be too small and the rules should be listed per page not all together on one page with a larger font. * The geese are making quite a mess on beach as people are feeding them. We need to put up a sign not to feed the geese. Kathy said that 2 of them are injured and a petting farm in Turners may take them. Most leave by mid October. * We finalized the committee for 2012. The 1 year renewals this year were Jim, Clare and Fran. They renewed for 3 years. Dave and Kathy both still have 1 year left. Gloria and Matt both have 2 years left. Mario has been appointed an alternate member. Kathy is going to see if the current members need to be sworn in again or just Mario. The committee voted to keep the officers the same with Kathy as Chair, Dave as co-chair and Gloria as Secretary. * Mario and his family have replaced the logs along the bank. And raked and weed whacked. * Water testing we have not heard anything so "no news is good news" and we must be passing otherwise, they would notify us we did not. Kathy is keeping a record of the weather so when we get the year-end report, we can tell what the weather was on certain days if the report shows increases in bacteria. * Dave has been talking to the Historical Committee about having a combined effort this February 2012 testing the cutting of ice on Moore's Pond and storing it in sawdust till Old Home Days and then make ice cream. This is a method they use to do years ago. Then it could be a thing to do for Warwick's 250th Anniversary in 2013. * Mario approached Kathy about the feasibility of having a wharf at the beach. Considering the liability involved, it is not allowed. * Next meeting is scheduled for Monday August 15th at 6:30 PM. The agenda will be: o Finalization of Old Home Day o Continuation of policies Meeting adjourned at 6:22 PM. Prepared by: Gloria J. Varno Secretary, Moore's Pond Beach Committee
