Richards Reservoir in February
We will be posting here the various components of our Annual Town Report as they come in. Most will be in .pdf format. The ultimate goal is to get the reports to Warwickians quickly.
For earlier Annual Reports (starting with 2007) see the archive.

A few years ago (after 120 years), because of a broken part, the town clock stopped chiming the hours. The time side still functioned okay. Over a year ago it was decided to look into repairing the clock. 3 clock restorers were asked to assess the damage and give the town a quote for repairing it. All 3 recommended a complete cleaning and overhaul of the entire clock and submitted quotes to do so. The town meeting last May appropriated the money and the Board of Selectmen awarded the job to Philip D'Avanza Clock Repair of Manchester, NH. Last fall (2007) the clock was placed out of service and completely dismantled. During the winter Phil cleaned, restored and/or replaced all of the parts. This past February the time side was placed back in service and during the past 3 weeks the strike side was restored to working order. It is now working fine.
Some of the cost has been offset with donations. One very large donation came from Nick Arguimbau (who is a descendant of the Clapp family which originally donated the clock to the town). Others came from members of Nick's family and George Day. As the restoration took place some volunteer time (about 60 hours total) was provided by George Day, Bob Day, Travis Softic, Justin Lyman, and Jim Toth.
I, as caretaker of the clock, have been instructed to let the clock run through the cycle of chiming the hours without striking the bell for a couple of weeks so as to make sure everything is okay. Phil did an excellent job for us and I am confident the clock will continue to run perfectly and keep accurate time for many more years to come.
The "official" first chiming of the hour will be held on May 5, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. to announce the beginning of the annual town meeting. Everyone is welcome.
HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT NEWS
by Tim Kilhart
The Highway Dept. has been busy working on Orange Rd. getting ready for our paving project. The plan is to do the Cold-In-Place Recycling and paving in September. We have cut brush, cleaned shoulders, dug out and flushed culverts, replaced two culverts and removed some dangerous pieces of ledge. We have also been busy with the large amounts of heavy rain that we have received this summer. Our roads have done very well and it is a direct result of the hard work the crew has done to get our drainage working properly and then maintaining it on a regular basis. We have also done other smaller projects around town as time has permitted. Our new dump truck is being built and should be ready sometime this fall. We appreciate the positive feedback we receive from the townspeople while we are working. We even have out-of-state people who stop and say how good our roads look. We work to do our best to make the roads better for everyone who might travel on them. Until next month drive safely.
