HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT NEWS
by Tim Kilhart
Hopefully by the time you read this article we will have paved a portion of Flower Hill Rd. and all of Leland Hill Rd. and White Rd. This will finish up our paving for the year.
We have also changed some additional culverts with still more to be done. It has definitely been a busy year for culvert replacement.
We are also working towards hiring a private contractor to make repairs to the Moore's Pond box culvert on Wendell Rd. We hope to have this done before winter.
We assisted the Moore's Pond beach committee by bringing sand down to fill in where the old buildings were. We also installed wooden posts along the road to prevent vehicle access to the beach area.
Our new truck is working out great and has added a tremendous amount of flexibility in our working operations. We will be beginning our fall grading operations in September to get our dirt roads ready for winter.
As always, the highway crew continues to maintain and make improvements to our roads. Drive safely and have a nice day.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask that if there is anyone who would like roadside fill from the highway dept. to contact, Tim Kilhart, at the garage at 978-544-6349. The highway dept. delivers roadside fill to residents who want it and meet the requirements needed for us to deliver it. The area you would like it to be dumped must be at least 200 ft. away from wetlands and 100 ft. away from a well. If you would like some fill please contact Tim and if you received it in the past and want more please let Tim know so you can be put on the list.
I would like to ask the residents of Warwick if they are happy with how the highway dept. is cutting trees and brush along the roadsides. We are trying to make the roads safer to travel on for everyone. Please send us a note (positive or negative) to Tim at the highway dept. and let him know what you think.
I went to a National Grid storm preparedness meeting and they suggest that when anyone loses power they should call 1-800-322-3223 or 1-800-465-1212 to report it. They isolate the problem by referencing the calls they receive to narrow down the location of the problem in order to fix it promptly. If you take the time to call in an outage then hopefully it will be fixed in a timely manner.
Finally after 3 years of work, the Select Board, Mass DOT and the Registry of Motor Vehicles have approved the updated speed study. The highway department has installed all the new signs around town to reflect the accurate speed limits. Please take heed of these new signs, as the police department will be enforcing these new speed limits, which is what people were asking for.
