HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT NEWS
by Tim Kilhart
The highway crew has continued preparing Leland Hill Rd., White Rd. and a portion of Flower Hill Rd. for paving this summer. We replaced a culvert on Flower Hill Rd. that was rusted out in preparation for the paving. The highway crew dug out a lot of the ledge on Flower Hill Rd. but had to hire a contractor with a hydraulic hammer to finish the job. We also had the contractor remove some pieces of ledge on Hastings Pond Rd. as well that affect our ability to plow during the winter.
We have replaced some culverts in town and are planning to replace others as well. We are adding extensions to some other ones that are too short and pose a danger to vehicles driving by.
We have taken delivery of our new truck complete with plow that was voted at the annual town meeting. It is a very nice truck and will help us to be more efficient in the work that we do. We appreciate the town agreeing to buy this truck for us. We will definitely put it to good use.
As always, the highway crew continues to maintain and make improvements to our roads. Drive safely and have a nice day.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask that if there is anyone who would like roadside fill from the highway dept. to contact, Tim Kilhart, at the garage at 978-544-6349. The highway dept. delivers roadside fill to residents who want it and meet the requirements needed for us to deliver it. The area you would like it to be dumped must be at least 200 ft. away from wetlands and 100 ft. away from a well. If you would like some fill please contact Tim and if you received it in the past and want more please let Tim know so you can be put on the list.
I would like to ask the residents of Warwick if they are happy with how the highway dept. is cutting trees and brush along the roadsides. We are trying to make the roads safer to travel on for everyone. Please send us a note (positive or negative) to Tim at the highway dept. and let him know what you think.
I went to a National Grid storm preparedness meeting and they suggest that when anyone loses power they should call 1-800-322-3223 or 1-800-465-1212 to report it. They isolate the problem by referencing the calls they receive to narrow down the location of the problem in order to fix it promptly. If you take the time to call in an outage then hopefully it will be fixed in a timely manner.
Finally after 3 years of work, the Select Board, Mass DOT and the Registry of Motor Vehicles have approved the updated speed study. The highway department has installed all the new signs around town to reflect the accurate speed limits. Please take heed of these new signs, as the police department will be enforcing these new speed limits, which is what people were asking for.
